AAGO Named a Recipient of 2021 Innovation in Diversity and Inclusion Grant

Posted By: Ricardo Alicea Industry, Membership,

On Friday, the National Apartment Association (NAA) announced that AAGO is one of its 2021 Innovation in Diversity and Inclusion Grant recipients. We are thrilled to be a recipient and continue to bolster our efforts of creating an association and industry ecosystem where diverse constituencies and voices feel seen, heard, and valued.

We applied for this grant with the goal of having the ability to provide additional resources and supplemental material to our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee's 2021 - 2022 Plan of Work. These grant funds provide us with the resources necessary to keep up the momentum of our DEI efforts and gives us the ability to impact lives and lift up the voices of underrepresented segments of the industry.

The grant will be used to further and adequately fund the following Committee project goals:

  • Launch DEI Leadership Academy | Q4 2021 or Q1 2022

  • Graduation Ceremony for DLA at AAGO Event | Q3 2022

  • Commission Study and Select Research Firm | Q4 2021

  • Study Completion and Report Presented | Q1 2022

As outlined above, we will utilize the grant to further several Committee initiatives all aimed at bolstering our efforts and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Launch DEI Leadership Academy | Q4 2021 or Q1 2022

First and foremost, grant funds will be used to partner with Valencia College's Peace and Justice Institute to develop a DEI "Leadership Academy." The Academy and its curriculum will be offered to AAGO members at no cost and facilitated by experts specializing in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Commission Study and Select Research Firm | Q4 2021

Additionally, we will utilize the grant to commission a research firm to conduct a survey of AAGO membership in an effort to more thoroughly understand the diverse backgrounds of central Florida's industry workforce. The study and anonymous data collected thereof will be used to target and supply resources to underrepresented constituencies within the industry and association.

These projects are part of our Committee's broader Plan of Work and we are ecstatic to have the opportunity to advance and fund them at the caliber they deserve.

DEI Committee Mission Statement: "We are greater because we are equal. AAGO Believes in fostering an environment where diversity and inclusion are valued and celebrated by all."
